This is caused mainly by the corrosive effect of acidic secretions produced by fungi that live within the excreta. Feral bird colonies carry and transmit many diseases to man. They attract associated insects and parasites which harbour in their nests and excreta, which can release foul odours, become unsightly and block gutters.
